Wilson County, TN (October 20, 2025)– Wilson Rides Inc. announced today the continued success of its Food Box Delivery Program for older adults in Wilson County, which officially launched in September 2025 in partnership with One Generation Away (OneGenAway), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been feeding communities across Tennessee since 2013.

Since its kickoff, Wilson Rides and its volunteers have delivered 225 Food Boxes in September and are set to deliver an additional 230 boxes in October, providing much-needed nutrition and support to older adults across Wilson County.

Founded by Chris and Elaine Whitney, OneGenAway rescues high-quality, surplus food from grocery stores, restaurants, farms, and caterers and redistributes it to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. Their vision is to “wipe hunger off the face of America by teaching people to love one another through service.”

Wilson Rides Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to providing safe, affordable, volunteer-driven transportation to older adults 55+ in Wilson County, was a natural partner to deliver food boxes to those living on tight, fixed incomes.

“This partnership allows us to go beyond transportation by helping older adults with another critical need—access to nutritious food,” said Gaye Lynn Wilson, Executive Director of Wilson Rides Inc. “There are so many wonderful nonprofits and local churches already working hard to meet the food needs in our community. But the reality is that the need is great, and resources and volunteers are being stretched thin. No single organization can do it all. At Wilson Rides, we see this program as our way of filling a vital gap for older adults—doing our part to ensure they are not overlooked and continue to feel supported as valued members of our community.”

Each month, Wilson Rides volunteers deliver Food Boxes not only to Wilson Rides clients, but also to older adults in our community identified through partnerships with the Mt. Juliet Senior Activity Center, Lebanon Senior Citizens Center, Cedar Seniors, and SCAN.

A special thank you goes to Blacks Buildings (Lebanon, TN) and the Mt. Juliet Fire Department for their generous support of this program and their commitment to helping older adults throughout Wilson County.

This program builds on Wilson Rides’ holistic approach, which combines reliable transportation with initiatives that prevent isolation, foster community connection, and provide essential resources to older adults.
