FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mt. Juliet, TN — December 18 — A long-anticipated milestone was reached today as demolition officially began on the future home of the Mt. Juliet Senior Activity Center. What was once the former Mt. Juliet Police Station will soon be transformed into a newly renovated, expanded, and more secure facility designed to better serve adults 55+ in the community.

The new center will be nearly 14,000 square feet—almost double the current usable space—allowing for expanded programming, enhanced safety features, and increased opportunities for connection and engagement.
Board Chairman Rob Porter officially gave the green light to kick off construction, inviting City Commissioner Jennifer Miele, Executive Director Valissa Saindon, and Activities Director Jennifer Pinto to join him in swinging the first hammers—symbolically launching the beginning of a project years in the making.
“This moment represents more than demolition,” said Porter. “It represents progress, investment, and our shared commitment to creating a welcoming, modern space where our older adults can stay active, connected, and engaged.” Porter also thanked the Board of Directors for their tremendous support and leadership in moving the project forward.
Executive Director Valissa Saindon shared the significance of the milestone for the community, stating, “This has made dreams come true for so many who have been waiting for this day for a very long time and for everyone who has supported the center along the way.”
Also in attendance were Susan Shaw, Special Projects Administrator for the Wilson County Mayor’s Office; Jason Brockman, City of Mt. Juliet liaison; board members Mark Hinesley, Roger Blevins, JeffRowlett, and Gaye Lynn Wilson; and Greg Wood and his son, Kyle Wood, of B&W Construction, who will lead the renovation effort.
While not in attendance, special recognition was given to Kathy Richards and Jason Morris of Kaatz, Binkley, Jones, & Morris Architects, Inc., whose renovation design played a key role in shaping the vision for the new center and ensuring the space will meet the needs of the community for years to come.
Construction is underway with a projected completion date of June 2026.
